About Nicola Campbell

HR experience

Nicola is an HR practitioner with 20 years’ experience across a range of organisations, including service based and people focused ones. She is qualified with a BA and MBA and is a Chartered member of the Human Resources Institute of NZ (HRINZ).

Her HR career began from the ground up and has been mostly in small teams or sole-charge roles where she worked directly with business owners and managers. This means she genuinely understands how people management impacts the business and has practical experience in many aspects of human resources. She especially enjoys those aspects that lead to having the right person in the right job, doing it well. For example, recruitment, training, performance management and retention.

Nicola brings a ‘right size’ approach to solving people problems and is particularly skilled at quickly understanding a situation and identifying solutions that work for the business and the employees. Her philosophy is to keep it simple and “if it’s not broken – don’t fix it”.

Career coaching experience

Nicola is a certified career coach with Worklife International Pty Ltd and has been involved in coaching people through work and career decisions throughout her HR career.

Nicola has worked with clients who are starting out in their careers right through to graduates and those who are more experienced and want to make a choice about ‘where to next?’

As well as working with individuals Nicola has developed and delivered workshops on all aspects of the job application process, from preparing a CV to attending an interview.

Nicola is busy with her two teenage children and is regularly seen walking their spoodle around the hills near home. She enjoys good food, wine, books, movies and friends and is always planning her next holiday.

Nicola is on the Board of Trustees at her daughter’s school – Wellington Girls’ College – and enjoys being able to contribute to such a great school as well as learn lots about our education sector.

Career Coaching

Helping people make positive work and career choices

The type of work you do and the way you want to work can change as other parts of your life do.

Fitting your work and life together is a continually evolving process – the pieces need to fit together differently at different times. Things change and there are different patterns as the pieces move – much like a kaleidoscope. It’s important to ‘take stock’ from time to time to make sure the pattern is right for you. Career coaching is a way to do that.

Career Coaching

Through coaching I help people with career planning so that their work fits positively with other aspects of their life.

This can include:

  • Helping identify your skills
  • Helping understand your work preferences
  • Increasing your understanding of what motivates you at work
  • Guiding you to learn more about the careers and work options that interest you
  • Working with you to identify the best job search strategies

Job Applications

Job application support can be part of a programme of career coaching or a separate process.

It can include helping you:

  • Prepare a quality CV and cover letter
  • Prepare for interviews
